At Portsmouth Nursery School, learning doesn’t stop at our classroom door. We believe children grow into compassionate, confident humans when they are given real opportunities to care for the world around them.

Throughout the year, our students take part in meaningful experiences both in school and out in the community — from welcoming local guests into our classrooms to getting their hands sandy and hearts full while helping others.

In our classrooms, we host special visitors and presentations that introduce children to new ideas, careers, cultures, and ways of caring for one another. These moments spark curiosity, build confidence, and help children see themselves as part of a bigger world.

Beyond our school walls, we bring that same spirit into the community through hands-on experiences like beach and playground cleanups, neighborhood celebrations, and visits to local senior communities. Whether it’s picking up litter along the shoreline, spreading joy through holiday caroling at Atria Aquidneck Place, or sharing smiles during seasonal events like trick-or-treating and Easter egg hunts, our children learn that even small acts of kindness can make a big impact.

These experiences teach empathy, responsibility, teamwork, and pride in our community — values we hope our students will carry with them long after their preschool years.
